Where the preceding album, The Imperious Horizon (2024), described an ominous, malevolent force, lurking in the distance, The Unyielding Season now explores said threat becoming a reality. The raging wildfire to its predecessor\u0092s calculating, icy cold, WINTERFYLLETH\u0092s first offering for their new record label is a reflection and a rebellion against the turmoils tearing individuals apart. It is a cry against the unsustainable weight of fear and pressure being pushed into the world, by the agents of a unresting, and unyielding force for evil.<\/p>\n
\u0093Heroes Of A Hundred Fields\u0094 is the first revolt on their ten-song manifesto, describing brave minds joining forces against a common oppressor to fight for their freedom. With \u0093Echoes In The After\u0094, WINTERFYLLETH delivers a striking epic: adapted from a poem by Sir Philip Sidney\u0092s late 16th-century romance \u0093The Countess Of Pembroke\u0092s Arcadia\u0094, the track was written as a reaction to the felling of the famous ‘Robin Hood’ tree at Sycamore Gap on Hadrian\u0092s Wall, in the North East of the UK. The song unfolds in marvellous grandeur and calls for the \u0091beacons of rebellion to bit lit\u0092, against a tide of evil. The following track, \u0093A Hollow Existence\u0094, opens up with galloping drums and explodes into equally aggressive and atmospheric black metal fireworks. The band\u0092s trademark sound continues throughout \u0093Perdition\u0092s Flame\u0094 into the album\u0092s title track, a powerful observation of our world\u0092s current situation and a voice for those silenced by its hostility. Atmospheric masters WINTERFYLLETH then pause their rage, making room for \u0093Unspoken Elegy\u0094, an acoustic guitar-driven instrumental enriched by equally hopeful and menacing cello melodies \u0096 a hauntingly beautiful illustration of the dichotomy within The Unyielding Season. \u0093In Ashen Wake\u0094 takes up the perilous undertone, taking its time before unveiling itself as another highly melodic black metal saga. \u0093Toward Elysium\u0094 expands on that with a strong, old-school-inspired guitar riff, thrilling and catchy. Following another instrumental, the beautifully structured \u0093Where Dreams Once Grew\u0094, WINTERFYLLETH end the album with a cover of fellow Brits Paradise Lost\u0092s \u0093Enchantment\u0094, originally released as the opening track on their 1995 classic Draconian Times.<\/p>\n
