AURO – im schatten der bastion LP black white haze

AURO was founded in early 2017 by Framan and Dragg, who are both deeply rooted within the German underground scene. Bringing in a vast amount of experience from their other bands, AURO’s musical and lyrical vision was consciously developed and the first, self-titled album was released in 2020 via Obscure Abhorrence Productions. In 2023, a pact was forged with the infamous cult black metal label Folter Records and a vinyl version of the debut was finally unleashed. While working on the second full-length album IM SCHATTEN DER BASTION, which will be released on August 15, 2025, AURO was completed by former live session members Azag, Fafnir, Henker and Nefastus.

AURO is a merging of the words Aura and Ouroboros. Ouroboros, the self-consumer, symbolizes a completely autarkic entity. It personifies the ultimate utopia to be achieved: The creation of a social and emotional microcosm without any interaction with the abominable outside world. AURO is the tool which is purposely used as a hammer – destructively smashed into the grotesque face of society as a deterrent. To simultaneously build the foundation of one’s own existence – as part of the individual cosmos.

The seven songs on IM SCHATTEN DER BASTION were composed by Framan, who also recorded rhythm and lead guitars, backing vocals and additional keyboard parts in his home studio. The concept and lyrics of the album were created by Dragg, who logically recorded the lead vocals – also at Framan’s studio. The bass was recorded by Fafnir, the keyboards by Henker, the drums by Nefastus and the additional lead guitars by Azag – in their respective home studios. Though Framan’s compositions already provided a clear direction for the recordings, every member put a highly valuable individual mark into the work. This combined effort resulted in a vibrant and multifaceted album. To achieve a natural, classic and raw sound, mixing and mastering was handled by JP Sicbro, who is also responsible for AURO’s live sound.

„IM SCHATTEN DER BASTION’s lyrical concept is centered around a transcendental train of thought merged with categoric self-determination, -exaltation and dehumanization as the key enabling factor. This is incorporated in the overarching ideology which has been set when the band’s name was chosen. Songs like INSIGNIEN DER MACHT, DER GLANZ DES TITANEN or OKKULTATION – DER ALLGEGENWÄRTIGE metaphorically explore transcendental experiences, while IM SCHATTEN DER BASTION, LUX CAEACA or HAUS DER TAUSEND FLÜGEL revel in apocalyptic visions of utter obliteration and fraternization with death itself. STROM DER VERBORGENHEIT on the other hand deals with a journey into the subconscious and the possibility to gain omniscience. In all of this, the omnipresent ancient, scaled god Ouroboros once again provided guidance, orientation and impetus by his titanic splendor.“

This otherworldly presence is clearly reflected in the sound of AURO. Uncompromising Black Metal enhanced by mystic keyboard sounds emanating the swirling chaos, coldness and majesty of the timeless cosmic vastness and its Great Old One.
